THE HORSEMEN RE-APPEAR IN “NOW YOU SEE ME: NOW YOU DON'T"
Before the Sacramento press screening of the new movie
"Now You See Me: Now You Don't," attendees were treated to a dazzling mini-performance by internationally touring illusionist
Andy Amyx and his wife, Georgia. The dynamic duo, renowned for their jaw-dropping feats of magic, have captivated audiences across the country and around the world with their spellbinding shows.
It was the perfect opening act for director Ruben Fleischer's (TV's "St. Denis Medical") heist drama, "Now You See Me: Now You Don't" which is the long-awaited sequel to 2016's "Now You See Me 2."
Nearly a decade has passed since the original Horsemen last graced the screen, and Fleischer makes it clear they haven't lost a step. But the magic doesn't stop there: three new faces bring fresh energy to the ensemble. Lockpicking and pickpocket June McClure, played by Ariana Greenblatt ("Borderlands"), adds nimble-fingered ingenuity; magician Charlie Vanderberg (Justice Smith, "The American Society of Magical Negroes") is the catalyst who reunites the Horsemen; and impressionist Bosco Leroy (Dominic Sessa, "The Holdovers") brings wit and charm that lightens even the tensest moments.
Together with the original Horsemen--J. Daniel "Danny" Atlas (Jesse Eisenberg, "A Real Pain"), hypnotist Merritt McKinney (Woody Harrelson, "Ella McCay"), sleight-of-hand master Jack Wilder (Dave Franco, "Regretting You"), and the ever-resourceful Lula May (Lizzy Caplan, TV's "Zero Day")-- the team is stronger, sharper, and more inventive than ever. Even retired magician-turned-debunker Thaddeus Bradley (Morgan Freeman, TV's "Lioness") and the mysterious former grandmaster of the Eye remain part of the intricate web of intrigue.
This upgraded Horsemen squad still have a few tricks up their sleeves, and the film puts them to dazzling use. The story kicks off with a thrilling heist, escalating to an even bigger caper: stealing the coveted Heart Diamond from the cunning criminal heiress Veronika Vanderberg (Rosamund Pike, "Saltburn").
The climactic heist unfolds at a high-society party in Belgium, overflowing with nifty disguises, prop swaps, and a few missteps. Just when the stakes feel impossibly high, the Horsemen deliver a finale that surprises and delights, bending expectations as effortlessly as the illusions they conjure and leaving the audience not just applauding the trick, but the cleverness behind it.
"Now You See Me: Now You Don't" is a smart, and fun ride that proves even after ten years, the Horsemen can still make magic feel entirely new.
