I miss seeing Will Smith saving the world from aliens, robots and even viruses, which may be why I got all wrapped up in the new time-travel, sci-fi drama “The Tomorrow War” which stars Chris Pratt (“Guardians of the Galaxy 3”) as the big-time hero who saves humanity.

In addition to Pratt, “The Tomorrow War” features a solid cast that includes Oscar winning actor J.K. Simmons (“Spider-Man: No Way Home”), Betty Gilpin (“The Hunt”), Yvonne Strahovski (TV’s “The Handmaid’s Tale”), Edwin Hodge (TV’s “Untitled Lakers Project”), Jasmine Matthews (TV’s “The Rookie”) and Sam Richardson (“Werewolves Within”).

N2Entertainment.net recently attended a Virtual Press Junket with the cast of the film and director Chris McKay (“The Lego Batman Movie 2”) and screenwriter Zach Dean (“24 Hours to Live”). They discussed how exciting and challenging it was to work on “The Tomorrow War” which launches on Amazon Prime July 2.

In “The Tomorrow War” Chris Pratt plays a former Iraq war veteran named Dan Forester who currently works as a high school science teacher. He and his wife Emmy (Gilpin) and their smart and cute as a button daughter, Muri (Ryan Kiera Armstrong, “Black Widow”) are a close-knit family. Everything seems to be going along fine for them until they are jolted by the news and arrival of humans from the year 2051. They want Dan’s help and need him to travel into the future to help fight against a fierce group of alien creatures that are out to destroy humanity. It’s a seven-day tour, but for Dan it will likely feel a lot longer.

He gets a big assist from his estranged father (Simmons) and a scientist named Romeo Command (Yvonne Strahovski). Also joining Dan in this futuristic battle is Dorian (Hodge), a cocky and brave ex-soldier and Charlie (Richardson) a geeky guy who fumbles his way through the mission. Together they try and develop a viable means to defeat the hungry predators, but the clock is ticking.

Normally, I would be a bit more descriptive in my review, but the studio requested press not reveal any major plot points and twists so that you can enjoy this little thriller. I will say, one of the big highlights for me in “The Tomorrow War” were the aliens. They are seriously big and beefy and pretty scary looking.

Chris Pratt holds his own here which isn’t that surprising since he is after all, Star-Lord. Overall, “The Tomorrow War” is a fun, light, popcorn pleasing creature feature.
