If director Brad Turner (TV’s “MacGyver” and “Next”) and screenwriter Michael Vickerman (TV’s “Abducted: The Mary Stauffer Story”) plan to make the new action drama “Trigger Point” into a Jason Bourne or John Wick type of series, they are off to a good start with Barry Pepper (“The Painted Bird”) in the lead role.

In “Trigger Point” Pepper plays a retired U.S. special operative named Nicholas Brazer who is falsely accused of killing members of his own team.

Now, he’s laying low in a house in a small town, but still hoping someday to clear his name. His house is wired up to the tee and stocked with some pretty heavy weaponry. This guy knows how to use every single firearm.

The only people Nicholas encounters regularly is Janice (Nazneen Contractor, TV’s “Star Wars Resistance”), a server at the local diner and the flirty, tea loving, bookstore owner Irene Cole (a wonderful Jane Eastwood, TV’s “Endings”).

However, Nicholas’ former boss, Elias Kane (Colm Feore, “Sugar Daddy”) is hot on his tail especially since his daughter Monica (Eve Harlow, TV’s “Next”) has been taken by a group of thugs.

Does Nicholas know her whereabouts? Possibly.

There are some interesting twists and turns in “Trigger Point” including a conspiracy theory surrounding mystery killer Fiona Shaw (Laura Vandervoort, TV’s “The Handmaid’s Tale”).

Despite its familiarity, Pepper and the rest of the stellar cast give this drama plenty spark and turn an otherwise conventional story into a suspenseful thriller.

I’m interested to see where “Trigger Point” can go. With some added star power on board, it has plenty of series potential.
