If romantic dramas are your thing, then you'll want to see "Road to Perth," a charming little indie film from director/screenwriter Chad Peter ("Apocalypse, CA").

Sometimes less is more and while "Road to Perth" was produced on a shoe-string budget, it certainly doesn't look like it.

In the movie, Tommy O'Brien from TV's "Unbelievable" plays a heartbroken guy named Alex who is trying to pick up the pieces after his girlfriend Lisa (Kat Kaevich, "White Terror") rejects his marriage proposal.

Lisa and Alex were set to go to Melbourne, Australia to celebrate the big occasion. Rather than moping around Los Angeles, Alex decides to charge ahead and go on the trip by himself.
His sister Rachel (Rachel Scott, TV’s "The Bold and the Beautiful") is naturally worried about her brother and tries to contact him to make sure he's OK.

While in Australia Alex drives over to the house of Lisa's friend Helen (Ellen Grimshaw, “Jack Irish”) hoping that she will tell him what Lisa has said about him because you know they have been texting and calling each other. Helen doesn't share anything with Alex and tells him Lisa is her best friend and she would always take her side in this or any situation.

Just when it seems that Alex will spend his time in beautiful Australia unhappy and alone, he meets someone that turns his life around.

Her name is Ronnie (Hannah Lehmann, "Suburban Wildlife") and she's going through some family drama. Ronnie is in Australia to scatter the ashes of her father throughout the city of Perth. Apparently, there was a mix up as to who was supposed to drive her there and she's freaking out now because the person can't do it.

Even without the family issues, Ronnie looks like she could be a drama queen. She's certainly abrupt and not very warm and receptive when she meets Alex who tries really hard to make a good impression. It’s far from a meet cute moment.

However, the two slowly warm up to each other. Alex even offers to drive Ronnie to Perth, and he even makes a few stops at some special places along the way so she can pay respects to her dad.

There is something about "Road to Perth" that just really clicked for me much like Ronnie and Alex's blossoming romance. It's a quiet, authentic, and well-written movie that reels you in emotionally. Plus, "Road to Perth" features spectacular views of southern Australia and a memorable soundtrack to boot which makes it quite an outing.

"Road to Perth" is available on Video On Demand.
